Kit Satisfaction
Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd of Fishponds Bristol England has gained a reputation for supplying and installing quality Tilt and Slide systems to suit most chassis over 5 tonnes GVW. Their TRS350/400 range is the most popular, manufactured to suit 7.5 tonne to 10 tonne GVW chassis cabs, but all of the TRS range of Slidebacks have been designed for ease of installation which makes it ideal to sell in kit form. Many recovery operators have seen this as an opportunity to buy a quality product and reduce the cost of installation. Among the many operators, Graham Baker Motors of Rushall, Ledbury, Herefordshire is one operator that relishes the DIY approach. After installing a TRS500 onto an MAN 12 tonner with a factory fitted crewcab, the same vehicle was used to collect the next two kits for installation to other chassis cabs.

Favour from AJ
Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd of Fishponds Bristol England has had a busy time since starting preparations to exhibit at the Ireland Assist Conference at Tullamore in the Republic of Ireland. During that period TRS had three new stock vehicles completed in good time to choose one as a Demonstrator to travel to the IAC. Harry Oliver of TRS takes up the story: ‘Two weeks before departure, I had picked the truck, with a crewcab, to exhibit. Plenty of room I thought, as my wife Carole was to accompany me, with all the luggage that entails. Sadly (hah) the vehicle was sold in that week and the two remaining trucks, four days before we were due to sail’. However a very happy Paul Allen, director of A J Taylor a local Bodyshop came to the rescue and offered to loan their Mitsubishi Canter with a TRS300 Slideback, which was not quite finished and had to be completed upon its return. Showtime Success
15-11-06
M B Auto Centre, car, light commercial, Land Rover and Range Rover service and repair specialist, of Dungarvan Co Waterford in the Republic of Ireland has taken delivery of a new TRS350 Slideback, supplied and installed by Transportation and Recovery Systems (TRS) of Fishponds Bristol. The TRS350 with an independent 1.6 tonne capacity second car lift with removable tow bracket, a 9,000lb (4,090kg) hydraulic winch, Flyer, Bar Light, Work Lights and Tool Locker, is fitted to a Mercedes Atego 815, purchased in the UK by M B Auto Centres Henry Beresford.
When Henry and his son, Proprietor Michael Beresford arrived at TRS to collect their truck they were delighted with what they saw. Henry explains, ‘I was looking for a tilt and slide system for the business and initially considered a kit, so visited the recovery show in Dublin where I met the TRS boys. I looked at the vehicles they had on display and had a long chat with Harry of TRS who demonstrated the tilt and slide that was on a Mercedes. I came to the conclusion that their bodies were the best value there, especially given the quality, and finish which I assumed was for the show. So, as you can understand, I was delighted to see, at the very least ours was up to the show standard so I am glad we went for the full installation as it was ready to go to work’. And to work it went.
Henry, with Michael at the wheel of the Mercedes Atego left TRS for Surrey to collect two Massey Ferguson tractors for delivery in the Ireland. Henry adds,’Timing could not have been better, to link collection of both of the tractors and the truck. You know, when I made enquiries to several TRS users, they all praised the product and the people. In our case, once the deal had been done there was an added bonus, they collected the chassis for us from Herefordshire and did some repairs to the truck cab and arranged for a new exhaust to be fitted. By the way, the roof mounted wind deflector has been removed which makes the truck look even better’.

Used and Useful
13-11-06
Thomas Ash and Sons Ltd of Glasgow had an immediate requirement for a Slideback with a decent payload and with the ability to manoeuvre through the streets of Glasgow. They saw an advertisment in a truck magazine showing a used Mercedes Atego 1017 with a new TRS400 Slideback and Second Car Carrier to the rear. Problem was the colour, blue, not a neutral colour in football mad Glasgow, like the red livery of their own fleet, so it would have to be painted if they bought it. However a good reason to buy the Atego was, it had a sleeper cab, which is easy to convert to a neat compact crewcab.
The TRS400 was supplied and installed by Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd of Fishponds Bristol and in collaboration with Otis Vehicle Rentals of Rowley Regis, West Midlands, who supplied the chassis. Red paintwork and decals were finished at Thomas Ash and Sons Ltd. Managing Director Thomas Ash FIVR, is delighted with the truck, he goes on to say. ‘ There are huge savings to be made by running good used chassis with new equipment on the back’.

West Life for Thunderlift
18-10-2006 | | A new TRS Thunderlift THU17-08/42 Heavy Duty Underlift being loaded for delivery, supplied as a kit by Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd of Fishponds Bristol, for Field Services of Plymouth in Devon. Ricky Caunt of Field Services will install the THU17-08/42, on a Scania 143 6 x 2 with a Gross Combination Weight of 66 tonnes. Ricky takes up the story, ‘We normally buy used trucks and refurbish or rebody them, but I saw two TRS Heavy underlift kits at last years AvroEx. One was sat on the ground and the other fitted to a Volvo FH12 so you could see the bare bones, nothing was hidden, nothing was complicated and you could see the build quality. With a good design capacity, a reach of 4.2 mtrs, including a power tilt and levelling system and a top Winching Boom, I was convinced that was the way to go, and with such a high specification, it’s unbelievable value’. Ricky adds, ‘I am a hands on man and look forward to working with nice clean well engineered piece of equipment that we can see exactly where we are when fitting the lockers. I have a local company that has done a lot of work for us, to build the bodywork in aluminium, it’s going to be some machine’. We will keep an eye on Rickys’ project and trace his progress. Caught on Camera
15-8-2005 Caught on camera an Iveco Stralis with a TRS ‘Thunderlift’ kit attached to the chassis, on its way to the customer’s body builder of choice, Recovery Bodywork Systems of Kidderminster Worcestershire and being delivered by TRS. Alpha Recovery of Cramlington, Northumberland had purchased the TRS HU17-08\42 Heavy Underlift system some months before and were waiting for the chassis to arrive. The Stralis was delivered directly from Iveco toTRS (Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd) of Fishponds Bristol where the kit was securely attached, for transport purposes. The kit included, as well as a 4.2 metre reach, an Overhead Winching Boom, dual Winch Mounting Plates, four rear Winch Back ‘D’ shackles, a selection of lifting forks and sockets, a heavy duty Tow Bracket and Wheel Stands. Alpha’s Michael Burke adds ‘We initially planned for a lift and tow system but this was such good value we decided to have a lot of extra equipment, and yet still stayed within our budget. We then have the bodywork so it’s not over yet. One thing I do know is that having installed quite a few TRS Underlift systems, Martin O’Toole [RBS] will do an excellent job with the installation and bodywork, so the whole project is in safe hands’.

AVRO 2006 Dublin
11-8-2006 David Starbuck and Harry Oliver, who both started their careers in the Industry with Brimec, got together in February 2004 after the collapse of Truk UK Ltd. Disappointed by the nature of the demise of Truk and the way it was dealt with by the directors, they decided to work for together, and formed Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd. Based in Fishponds Bristol, the engineering facility, run by David Barnes (ex Brimec), boasts a ten thousand square feet workshop, with two gantry cranes, and almost double that as secure outside parking. The relationship with Ireland started during the Brimec era when Derek Beahan bought a Transit Spectacle Lift from Harry Oliver. It progressed when, twelve years ago, as a representative of Roger Dyson, Harry introduced the Brimec Slideback range into Ireland, through an invitation from Ireland Assist / Mapfre Asistencia to a conference with an outdoor display of suppliers vehicles held at The Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone. Of all the agents trucks there, only one had a tilt and slide system, and that was of fairly crude construction. Since then the Industry has moved on a pace with the Slideback as the main recovery system of choice. The TRS product range is almost as wide as the major manufacturers, and includes Slidebacks of all sizes, Plant Transporters, two types of Spectacle Lifts, Multi Car Carriers and two Heavy Underlift models, all of which can be supplied in kit form. They also pre order and stock new and used, popular chassis marques. The TRS Slidebacks span 5 tonne to 32 tonne range of chassis and have all the benefits of constant improvements and attention to detail which make them an excellent prospect. The most popular model is the TRS350/400 designed to suit 7.5 tonne to 10 tonne chassis, there are currently a number of these systems already operating in Ireland. Harry adds ‘All new TRS350/400 Slidebacks have rear under body rollers forward of the knife edge, galvanized chassis subframes and inner bodies, and control panels with polished stainless steel surround and facia. All body parts are shot blasted before assembly and all cross members are sealed before painting. These together with TRS’s policy of continual improvements and the many other unique features, make this the best value tilt and slide system on the market. We will be showing a TRS350/400 and 275/300 and hope with the cooperation of customers, several others will be on display’. If you require further information about TRS’s products or the Company, telephone 00 44 117 952 5900, or Harry’s mobile 00 44 7831 825544, anytime. Ref AvroEx Dublin 2006/HO

7-7-2006 G Bannerman (Tain) Ltd of Tain in the Highlands of Scotland recently took delivery of a new TRS400 Slideback, supplied and installed by Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd (TRS) of Fishponds Bristol. The TRS400 with a design capacity of 4,000 kgs, includes a fully independent 1.6tonne second car lift with removable tow bracket and 9,000 lb (4,000 kgs) hydraulic winch. The installation on a new Renault Midlum 180.10/B crewcab, 10 tonnes GVW, supplied by TRS, also includes a tool locker, Flyer, work lights and a 4 modual bar light . Due to the distance between Bristol and Tain (home of the Glenmorange distillery), and the fact there was a part exchage vehicle it was arranged that the change over be done on an M6 service station. Gordon Bannerman’s son Neil was the ‘lucky’ driver to make the long journey and met TRS director David Starbuck to swop over trucks and paperwork. Neil seemed very pleased with his new Renault but Gordon said ‘When I saw the truck I was absolutely delighted', it’s got a very good loading angle, and is altogether a superb vehicle. The service from TRS is also very good as we sadly lost a winch control lever, a replacement was sent the day we reported it missing’.

"Terrific value, excellent performance"
10-8-2005 ‘Terrific value, excellent performance, our driver Jason loves it’. That’s how Richard Mayo of Roger’s Rescue, Kidderminster, summed up their recent acquisition from West Country manufacturer, TRS of Fishponds Bristol. The demonstration was a baptism of fire for the TRSLL25 Spectacle system and the unfortunate Iveco 65C chassis. The request was to lift the front axle of a Renault Mascott, also with a spectacle system, with the same GVW as the Iveco. It lifted with gusto putting the Iveco’s rear suspension somewhat under pressure. The TRSLL 25 has a 2,500 kgs design capacity, 9,000lb Superwich, an attractive well thought out locker body constructed from Zintec steel and which has reinforced doors with gas struts and excellent easy to use single door locks. Double skin Flyer with easy access to the wireing, 4 module bar light and two pairs of work lights. The controls are operated through a remote push button pendant, through an electro/hydraulic power pack in the rear nearside locker.

TRS Recall
10-7-2005 In the early days of Transportation and Recovery Systems Ltd of Fishponds Bristol the identity badges that adorned their equipment included the word ‘TRUCK’. Although they have since changed the range of badges to show a ‘TRS’ logo, there has been an influx of calls from some customer asking if they can have their badges changed to the new ones due to the stigma attached to the earlier inference. Harry Oliver of TRS explains: ‘We soon realised that it was a mistake to use the word ‘TRUCK’ so changed the badging across the entire TRS product range. When a vehicle comes in for a service, repair, collecting spares or just visiting we change the badges, if required, as a matter of course’. ‘We now wish to offer to any of our customers who require the availability of having their badges, on average there are six, changed at the factory free of charge. We can also prepare badges to suit the customer’s system and send them for self installation. It’s a simple operation and we will advise’. For further details call TRS on 0044 117 952 5900

The Flyer style, new as an option from T R S and the first fitted to a new Mercedes Atego 818, is proving popular with other cutomers. Owner Tom Bell says ‘I was very close to placing an order with another supplier in the same town, but saw one of T R S’s Slidebacks on an Atego awaiting PDI at our local dealer, Mercedes Benz Truck and Van Northern Ireland. I was very impressed with build quality and paintwork, so called them for details, which I received promptly. They kept in touch throughout the build period, for example there was a requirement for a special PTO/Pump, to suit the new Mercedes gearbox, which they were able to locate quickly. Also the day before I was due to collect the truck I enquired about a free spool air clutch for the winch. The air valve arrived about the same time that I was collected from the airport. I was taken for breakfast and the job was finished when we arrived at the factory. I know I made the right decision’.

I called in to see their operation and to add one or two of the options offered, once the chassis had arrived with them. They have an excellent facility and our decision to go with TRS certainly has paid off because James is walking around with a huge smile on his face’.
